Kumejima Ocean Energy
Kume Island (Kumejima Town) in Okinawa is home to many cultural and historic sites, however, its largest resource is the ocean surrounding it. With the largest Deep Seawater capacity in Japan, Kumejima has built up fishery, industry, and now power from the ocean resource. Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) uses the temperature difference between surface and deep water to create power. Since 2013, the Okinawa OTEC Demonstration Facility on Kumejima has produced renewable clean energy that can operate 24/7. For more on the future of deep seawater use and OTEC on Kumejima visit gosea.info/en/ For more information about OTEC Okinawa or to schedule a tour visit otecokinawa.com/en/

You should let the rice cool in the refrigerator before adding it to the other ingredients. Otherwise it will come out sort of slimy.

Hmm, I just watched "Lost World Of The Pacific" with David Attenborough, and they discover a jellynose at a depth of 275 metres. How were they able to get this specimen up to the surface without getting juiced up from the intense pressure? Or do they also happen to live near the surface s well?

    • @MoreThingsJapanese

In this case, we have deep seawater pipelines going to 612 meters. This fish decided to swim up the pipe, likely exploring while the pump was off. It was collected from a strainer prior to the pump. Although very few specimens come up through the pipes, those that do are sent to researchers when possible
